Studying Kung Fu An article by Carrie Hausdoerfer
When I first started kung fu, I didn’t think I was improving at all even though my instructor insisted that I was improving all the time. I thought that other people were better than me, but they only were because they had been doing it for longer than me.
Nobody is perfect when they start; it takes time, effort, patience and criticism.
Your instructor will give lots of criticism and you might even think that they are picking on you. But they are not. Your instructor wants to help and any criticism is constructive, because they want to help you improve, and to do your best at the grading.
My instructor has helped me a lot and I enjoy being shown new ways to acquire the skill, and seeing how much I have improved. If I didn’t use the criticism to my advantage, I would improve a lot slower. So, next time you feel like giving up because you don’t like the criticism that your instructor is giving you, or you think you aren’t improving, just remember. Your instructor is trying to help you improve all the time.
