Chinese Kick Boxing- An Article by Mr Russell Suthern Chief Instructor WCMA
I am extremely pleased that our Chinese Kick Boxing classes have been going from strength to strength. We are getting a steady flow of new students of all ages and all abilities, from both sexes and from all walks of life.
The classes are very beginner friendly and everyone works together in a safe and inclusive manner. I do ensure everyone works hard and sweats it out!
We always start with a good warm up, covering flexibility, stamina, strength and speed training, then we move on to skill work. Drills are performed covering foot work, guard, evasion as well as punching, kicking and takedown routines. We also spar regularly to see if we can hold our own against a non-compliant opponent. Sparring is always very strictly controlled to minimise the risk of injury.
Following the main hour is an optional half hour of grappling. We cover takedowns into positioning work, striking on the floor and various holds, locks, chokes and other finishing moves.
Everything we do is Chinese in origin and this class is no exception. We blend San Da with Shiai Jiao wrestling, Chin Na holds and locks and Dog style groundwork to creating a fighting style that operates through all the ranges.
Why not come along and join in with the fun? It’s a great way to get fit, keep in shape, learn how to defend yourself and best of all it is a great stress buster!
